It looks like if sales continue as usual, the new moisturizer should be ready to ship out on the 17th (Friday) or the 20th (Monday). To get on the mailing list so you know the minute it’s available, go ahead and scroll to the bottom of any acne.org page and type in your email down there where it says Mailing List. Again, a few quick answers on this moisturizer: 1) It will completely replace the current moisturizer. The current moisturizer...

Sometimes we tend to think of acne as a modern phenomenon. But quite the contrary, ancient people wrote of acne as soon as they could write at all. Ancient Egyptian writings mention how Pharoahs struggled with the disease. Traces of an essential oil used in the treatment of acne scars were found in King Tut’s tomb. Fast forward to Ancient Greece, and we find that people were affected at this time as well. In fact, we get the word “acne”...

Miscellaneous Questions and Answers: So, are we saying that the baby wash is also equal to the purpose cleaner? And if so, is the baby wash also a replacement or a substitute for the face wash in the first step for the regimen? I’d actually like to hear from more of you on this. I don’t personally like baby wash, Purpose, or Clean & Clear because they are heavily scented. But if it’s …  Read More →

Brandy and I have been discussing makeup a lot lately and I think it’s time we had a better, more filled out page regarding makeup and how to apply and remove it safely. I’m going to include recommended brands, recommended ways of applying, and things to avoid. Anything you can think of that you’ve been dying to tell people  Read More →

For years, one of the drugstore cleansers I recommended was Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash. It has a strong scent, but it does the trick. Then, a member emailed me and let me know that it is the same exact product as Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Wash. Both are by Johnson & Johnson. Well, lo and behold, it is. Companies sometimes package the exact same product under different brands. In some cases, like in this case, they charge significantly...

We’re getting ready to fill the new, improved moisturizer. It should be for sale sometime in mid September if all goes well. Overview: I tell people if it’s not the best moisturizer they’ve ever tried, I’m not happy. Usually it does end up being the best they’ve tried. I have seldom felt so confident about any product release. I have been using it for about six months very diligently every evening and have not found...

The ultimate goal for the future of humanity, as we all know, is to become sustainable. The cosmetics industry is no exception. I’m happy to report that the United States EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) lists Principles of Green Chemistry on their web site for the entire industry to aspire to. These principles were first published in the book Green Chemistry: Theory and Practice, in 1998. They include: 1. Preventing waste. 2. Designing...

Pros: It has a very light feel to it and feels good going on. I really enjoyed its “payoff” as they call it in the cosmetics industry–it’s been formulated to really feel nice upon application. Cons: Small bottle (25mL, .8oz) is gone before you know it. Dries white in patches. This whiteness goes away after moisturizing, but the whiteness can come back after perspiring, much  Read More →

I called Olay again today to bug them about when the Classic Gentle Formula SPF15 with zinc was going to reach store shelves again. The representative with whom I spoke let me know the product is now officially available for all retailers to purchase across the United States and it is shipping to those who have ordered it. She also said she herself just saw it last night at her North Florida Walmart while shopping for her family. Any of you...

Ingrown hairs occur when a hair grows sideways, staying below the skin surface instead of properly exisitng the skin surface. They are common in areas that are shaven, and tend to affect men in their in their 30s and beyond to a higher degree. Ingrown hairs commonly occur on the chin, jawline, or sideburn area. These ingrown hairs can easily masquerade as zits because they are inflamed mounds that hurt. However, they tend to come out of nowhere,...

What it is: Makeup is so well known for causing acne that it has its own term in dermatology, acne cosmetica . It is often misdiagnosed as run-of-the-mill acne, but it shows up in different ways and can often be treated simply by no longer using the offending makeup. As opposed to acne vulgaris , cosmetic induced acne tends to show up as lots of little bumps on…  Read More →

Sampling on the new SPF15 is going well and people are liking it a lot. I am still in love with it myself. In the meantime, I’ve been doing more research on Avobenzone and Octocrylene, the SPF ingredients. It’s a mixed bag. Avobenzone: I am pretty comfortable with Avobenzone. It’s been around since 1981 and I haven’t seen many negative reports on …  Read More →

A reporter who writes for Salon interviewed me months ago for an article he was writing on pimple popping. Well, it’s out. Here it is: http://www.salon.com/life/feature/2010/06/15/pimple_popping (warning, ad springs up when you go there that you have to close to see article – I hate those) And yup, he called me Daniel Krebs. LOL. I’ve asked him to change it.  Read More →

1. “That sunscreen broke me out!” 2. “The minute I changed to that cleanser, I broke out. It must be the cleanser.” 3. “Every time I try a product with that ingredient in it, I break out. I hate that ingredient.” Any of these sound familiar, like something you may have said before? Now, consider these equally plausible reasons for what the person above is claiming: 1. The person applied the sunscreen four...
