Talked to New York Times today!

December 3rd, 2009 admin

A reporter from the NY Times called me today to ask my opinion and experience on light and heat treatment devices for acne. I gave her an earful for about 40 minutes. I had a lot to say. Basically, science on both fronts is spotty at best and it’s buyer beware. Particularly with heat therapy devices, I find myself highly skeptical. It felt great to give her my opinion. The article should run either next Thursday or the Thursday after. I’m also now inspired to write new pages on light treatment and laser treatment for acne.org, so I’ll get on…

New heat therapy page – Zeno, ThermaClear, etc.
I just uploaded a new heat therapy page . This page discusses devices like Zeno and ThermaClear which claim to hasten the healing of active acne lesions through the application of heat. My research into this topic as well as my personal experience leaves me highly skeptical to say the least. If you guys have tried either of these devices, especially...
New laser page and new light page
New laser page and new light page
I’ve been looking into light therapy (red and blue light) and also laser therapy (Diode, Pulsed Dye, LHE, Isolaz) for a while now. It’s a bleak picture for light therapy, and just downright confusing when it comes to laser therapy. New Light and Laser pages here. Light: My gut tells me it doesn’t do much. Yes, that’s just...
Choosing A Method Of Contraception
Choosing A Method Of Contraception
Any method of contraception is intended to be used for one purpose: the prevention of pregnancy. For this reason, contraception is sometimes also referred to as “birth control”. Implanon
Implanon
A type of contraceptive that is highly effective is the Implanon implant. It alters the uterine lining and the cervical mucus, thus providing protection against pregnancy. The procedure to insert an implant is not considered highly invasive. A physician will use a local anesthetic in the upper arm and place the implant under the skin. The arm...
New iPhone App for Treating Acne
You really can do anything with your iPhone! Even treat acne. Yes, you read that right. Apparently, there is a new iPhone app you can purchase that supposedly helps you clear acne as you talk on the phone. Blown away? I was too. Called AcneApp, it’s meant to turn your iPhone into a miniature version of a professional light treatment. Once on,...

We’re on Salon.com!
A reporter who writes for Salon interviewed me months ago for an article he was writing on pimple popping. Well, it’s out. Here it is: http://www.salon.com/life/feature/2010/06/15/pimple_popping (warning, ad springs up when you go there that you have to close to see article – I hate those) And yup, he called me Daniel Krebs. LOL. I’ve...
Finding a More Permanent Filler for Acne Scars
Dermal fillers are one of the better treatment options for depressed or pitted acne scars. During treatment, a filler substance is injected into the acne scar. The depressed area of the scar “plumps” up, and the skin becomes more even. It’s a great treatment option. The downside: the results are only temporary. The treatment must...
